Trade Name: DIRECT RED 4SD · CI Number: Direct Red 79
Where Direct Red 23 delivers a warm, vivid scarlet, Direct Red 79 occupies a different position — a deeper, more neutral true red with a slightly cooler tone and meaningfully better light fastness. That difference in LF is what drives the choice between the two grades in practice. For cotton or viscose fabric that will sit indoors with ambient light exposure — curtains, furnishing fabric, upholstery, home textile — the higher LF of DR79 (4–5 vs 4 for DR23) translates directly into a shade that holds its tone over time rather than fading towards orange or pale pink. Yobai Industries supplies this grade as DIRECT RED 4SD with consistent batch shade strength.
DR79 is also well suited to continuous pad-steam dyeing — the flat, controlled application in a padding mangle followed by steam fixation produces very even shade across wide-width fabric, which is difficult to replicate in exhaust processes on large batches. For mills running continuous dyeing ranges for furnishing fabric or shirting, DR79 handles the pad recipe reliably at neutral pH without the acid or steam-alkali stages that reactive dyes require. For deep red and maroon combination shades, DR79 is combined with Direct Blue 71 or Direct Black to build depth and body without shifting the overall tone towards scarlet.

LF 4–5 makes DR79 distinctly better than DR23 for applications with prolonged ambient light exposure. The difference between LF 4 and LF 5 is significant in practical terms — a shade rated LF 4 will show visible fading at the standard 40-hour xenon arc test exposure; LF 5 shows only slight change. Batch COA available on request.

Direct Red 79 dissolves at 30–50 g/L at 40–60°C. Standard pre-dissolution practice applies — paste the powder in cold water first to wet all particles, then raise temperature to 50–60°C with continuous stirring. Filtering through 80–100 mesh before adding to the bath removes any undissolved particles that would cause spot dyeing on fabric. For pad processes, prepare the dye solution at room temperature at 20–40 g/L and filter well — particles deposited at the nip will create repeat-pattern defects on the padded fabric.
For combination recipes with Direct Black or Direct Blue (maroon/burgundy), dissolve each component separately before combining in the stock vessel. Check combined solution stability before use — any precipitation in the stock indicates compatibility issues at that concentration and ratio.
Exhaust values apply at liquor ratio 1:8–1:15. Pad values are for a 70–80% wet pick-up at the mangle nip.

Shade is a deep, slightly cooler true red — less warm and yellow-leaning than Direct Red 23. At high concentrations, it builds towards maroon and deep burgundy tones.
At high loadings, shade shifts towards maroon/burgundy. For true maroon, combine with a small percentage of Direct Blue 71 or Direct Black. Request a lab dip for colour-critical end-uses.

Store below 30°C in a dry, covered location with relative humidity below 65%. Moisture absorption causes caking that impairs dissolution and makes accurate weighing unreliable — for a dye used in precision pad recipes, this matters particularly. Seal containers immediately after every use. Keep away from oxidising agents, chlorine compounds, and bleaching chemicals — these degrade the azo chromophore and cause shade drift that cannot be corrected. Do not expose to direct sunlight.
Used where a deeper, light-fast red is required on cellulosic substrates — particularly furnishing, home textiles, and continuous dyeing operations.
