Trade Name: YOBISOL ORANGE R · CI Number: Solvent Orange 99
Solvent Orange 99 is the grade you reach for when the application needs a reliable, bright orange in a petroleum or oil-based system and cost efficiency matters as much as shade purity. Its defining characteristic is exceptional solubility in mineral oils, diesel, kerosene, and petroleum distillates. At the trace concentrations used in fuel marking — typically 1–5 grams per 1,000 litres — it dissolves completely without heating, stays in solution during storage and transport, and does not precipitate when fuel temperature drops during cold weather distribution.
Fuel blenders and petroleum marketing companies use YOBISOL ORANGE R to distinguish product grades — kerosene from diesel, subsidised from full-price, or different refinery batches — at concentrations low enough that the dye has no measurable effect on fuel properties, combustion efficiency, or emission characteristics. The shade is a vivid, unambiguous orange that reads clearly under field inspection conditions. Lubricant manufacturers similarly use it at low loading to colour gear oils, hydraulic fluids, and transformer oils for product identification. Beyond petroleum applications, it finds use in wax and candle colouring where it dissolves cleanly in the paraffin melt, in polyolefin and polypropylene mass colouring where moderate heat stability to 180°C is adequate, and in wood stains targeting warm mahogany tones. Supplied by Yobai Industries with batch colour strength testing before every dispatch.

Solvent Orange 99 has very good solubility in mineral oils and petroleum distillates — the primary application media. At fuel marking concentrations (1–5 g per 1,000 litres), it dissolves completely without heating and remains stable during cold weather transport. For wax and polymer applications, warming the wax to 70–80°C or pre-dissolving in aromatic solvent gives the fastest, cleanest incorporation.
For masterbatch compounding, pre-dissolve in white spirit or xylene to create a concentrated stock, then blend into the carrier polymer. This avoids undissolved particles that can streak in the finished article. For coating and ink formulations, filter the dissolved dye through a 200-mesh screen before adding to the main batch.
Starting-point guidelines — actual loading depends on shade depth required, substrate type, and process conditions. Trial at lab scale before committing to production.
| Application | Loading (%wt) | Solvent System | Processing Temp | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel Marking | 0.001–0.005% | Pre-concentrate in diesel/xylene | Ambient | Non-reactive; does not affect fuel properties |
| Lubricating Oils | 0.005–0.02% | Mineral oil direct | Ambient | Fully soluble at these concentrations |
| Wax / Candle | 0.01–0.10% | Paraffin or soy melt | 70–80°C | Stir until fully dissolved before pouring |
| Plastics (PP / PE) | 0.05–0.3% | Carrier masterbatch | 160–180°C | Use carrier concentrate; verify migration resistance |
| Wood Stains | 0.05–0.3% | Mineral spirits / white spirit | Ambient–40°C | Pre-dissolve; filter before application to wood |
