Trade Name: YOBISOL FIRE RED G · CI Number: Solvent Red 119
Solvent Red 119 is a bright orange-red solvent dye with a shade character that wood finishing professionals often describe as fire red or cherry — it sits at the warm, orange end of the red spectrum rather than the cool, blue-shifted side. That warm undertone is what makes it the go-to choice for mahogany and cherry wood stain formulations where the final result needs warmth and depth rather than a flat, neutral red. In oil-based and alkyd wood stains, it dissolves cleanly in mineral spirits and penetrates grain evenly without banding or uneven take-up across different wood species. The tinctorial strength is high, so a little goes a long way in production.
The leather industry uses YOBISOL FIRE RED G in solvent-based topcoats and finishing lacquers where compatibility with nitrocellulose and polyurethane binders is a working requirement. Footwear and leather goods manufacturers use it for red and coral shades in finished leather where surface brightness and uniformity matter for export quality. In printing inks, high tinctorial strength means low loading rates achieve full shade development — useful in gravure and flexographic formulations where ink film is thin and every gram of dye per litre must perform. Wax and candle applications benefit from clean dissolution in the paraffin melt and even distribution through the cast. Heat stability to 180°C covers most coating stoving and commodity plastics colouring applications at standard processing temperatures. Supplied as YOBISOL FIRE RED G with batch-level quality checks before every dispatch.

Solvent Red 119 has very good solubility in polar solvents — alcohols, esters, and aromatic hydrocarbons. It dissolves readily in ethanol or IPA at ambient temperature. For mineral spirit-based wood stain systems, pre-dissolving in a small quantity of ethanol or butyl acetate before adding to the main mineral spirit volume gives clean, complete dissolution without residue.
In nitrocellulose lacquer and alkyd coating systems, dissolve in the formulation's carrier solvent before adding the binder. This ensures even distribution. For wax systems, dissolve at 70–80°C with stirring. Avoid addition to pure aliphatic hydrocarbons (hexane, cyclohexane) — limited solvency causes incomplete dissolution and streaking in wood stains.
Starting-point guidelines — actual loading depends on shade depth required, substrate type, and process conditions. Trial at lab scale before committing to production.
| Application | Loading (%wt) | Solvent System | Processing Temp | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood Stains | 0.05–0.4% | Mineral spirits / butanol | Ambient–50°C | Pre-dissolve in ethanol or BAc; filter before use |
| Leather Coatings | 0.2–1.0% | Alcohols / esters / NC lacquer | Ambient | Dissolve in carrier solvent before binder addition |
| Wax / Candle | 0.05–0.2% | Paraffin melt | 70–80°C | Stir continuously until fully dissolved |
| Printing Inks | 0.5–3.0% | Toluene / ketones / esters | Ambient | Full colour at 1–2%; adjust for film weight |
| Plastics (PP / PE) | 0.05–0.2% | Carrier masterbatch | 160–180°C | Blend via masterbatch; verify migration resistance |
