Trade Name: YOBISOL YELLOW R · CI Number: Solvent Yellow 82
Solvent Yellow 82 is a versatile greenish-yellow solvent dye used across wood staining, fuel colouring, plastics, and printing inks. Its good solubility in mineral spirits makes it a practical choice for oil-based stains and alkyd coatings. Supplied by Yobai Industries as YOBISOL YELLOW R with consistent colour strength testing.
In wood staining, YOBISOL YELLOW R dissolves cleanly in mineral spirits and penetrates open-grain hardwoods evenly. Used alone it produces a clean straw-to-yellow tone; blended with YOBISOL ORANGE R (Solvent Orange 99) it shifts towards golden oak, and with YOBISOL FIRE RED G (Solvent Red 119) it builds warm teak shades. In fuel colouring it is compatible with diesel and kerosene at trace concentrations (1–5 g per 1,000 litres). In plastics, it is stable to 180°C and suitable for PP and PE compounding. Light fastness of 4–5 makes it the economical choice for indoor and protected-surface applications; for outdoor or engineering-plastics end uses, YOBISOL YELLOW 2GL (Solvent Yellow 146) is the appropriate upgrade.

SY82 performs well across both aliphatic and aromatic organic solvent systems. Batch-specific TDS available on request.
Solvent Yellow 82 has broad compatibility across both aliphatic and aromatic organic solvent systems — its good performance in mineral spirits distinguishes it from higher-performance grades such as SY146 and makes it the preferred choice for economical wood stains, alkyd-based coatings, and mineral spirit systems where 180°C heat stability and LF 4-5 are adequate. In straight mineral spirits, dissolution is faster if the solvent is warmed to 40°C.
For fuel marking, dissolve at fill point — agitation during fuel transfer provides adequate mixing at standard marking concentrations. For wax and candle applications, add the powder to molten wax at 70–80°C with continuous stirring until fully incorporated. For plastics, use a carrier masterbatch concentrate rather than direct powder addition to the polymer melt.
Starting-point guidelines — actual loading depends on shade depth required, substrate type, and process conditions. Trial at lab scale before committing to production.
| Application | Loading (%wt) | Solvent System | Processing Temp | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood Stains | 0.05–0.25% | Mineral spirits / alkyd | Ambient–40°C | Good in aliphatic systems; straw to golden shade range |
| Fuel Marking | 0.001–0.005% | Direct addition to fuel | Ambient | Good petroleum solubility; distinct from red/orange grades |
| Wax / Candle | 0.01–0.15% | Paraffin / soy melt | 70–80°C | Stir until fully dissolved; pale cream to clean yellow range |
| Plastics (PP / PE) | 0.05–0.3% | Carrier masterbatch | 160–180°C | 180°C limit — use SY146 for higher-temperature resins |
| Printing Inks | 0.5–2.0% | Mineral spirit / alkyd ink base | Ambient | Good in aliphatic-based ink systems; economical |
