Trade Name: YOBISOL YELLOW 2GL · CI Number: Solvent Yellow 146
Solvent Yellow 146 is a high-performance yellow solvent dye offering outstanding heat stability and lightfastness. It is the preferred choice for engineering plastics, automotive coatings, and outdoor applications where colour durability is critical. Supplied by Yobai Industries as YOBISOL YELLOW 2GL with rigorous batch quality testing.
What separates Solvent Yellow 146 from standard yellow solvent dyes like YOBISOL YELLOW R (Solvent Yellow 82) is the combination of heat stability to 200°C and light fastness of 6–7. These properties make it the grade of choice when the dye must survive engineering plastics processing (ABS, polycarbonate, polyamide) or when the final product will face outdoor exposure — automotive exterior trims, building profiles, and outdoor signage. It dissolves well in aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, and ketones, and is compatible with polyurethane, epoxy, and acrylic coating resins. For applications where light exposure is limited and processing temperature stays below 180°C, YOBISOL YELLOW R provides the same bright yellow at a lower cost.

Solubility figures at 25°C. Quinophthalone chemistry gives stronger polar solvent affinity than azo-type yellows. Batch-specific TDS available on request.
Solvent Yellow 146 has excellent solubility in aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, and esters — the standard media for high-performance coating and engineering plastic applications. It dissolves readily at ambient temperature in toluene, xylene, MEK, cyclohexanone, ethyl acetate, and butyl acetate. In chlorinated solvents, solubility is also good. This strong polar and aromatic affinity makes it naturally compatible with the resin systems it is intended for: polyurethane, epoxy, acrylic, and alkyd stoving lacquers.
For mineral spirit-based wood stain systems, solubility is limited — pre-dissolve in a small volume of butyl acetate or MEK before adding to the mineral spirit formulation. In wax applications, dissolve in a compatible ester at ambient before adding to the molten wax at 70–80°C; this gives cleaner, faster distribution than adding dry powder directly to the melt.
Starting-point guidelines — actual loading depends on shade depth required, substrate type, and process conditions. Trial at lab scale before committing to production.
| Application | Loading (%wt) | Solvent System | Processing Temp | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Engineering Plastics | 0.05–0.3% | Ketones / esters / aromatic HCs | 160–200°C | Verify shade at actual melt temperature; use masterbatch |
| Industrial / Automotive Coatings | 0.2–0.8% | Ketones / aromatics / esters | Ambient–60°C | Dissolve in carrier solvent before binder addition |
| Printing Inks | 0.5–3.0% | Toluene / ketones / esters | Ambient | Filter before press use; clean yellow without green cast |
| Wax / Candle | 0.01–0.10% | Paraffin melt | 70–80°C | Pre-dissolve in ester; add to melt with stirring |
| Stoving Lacquers | 0.2–0.5% | Ketones / xylene | 130–180°C | Stable through full stoving cycle; confirm in lab |
