Trade Name: ACID BLACK /EB · CI Number: Acid Black 52
Acid Black 52 is a disazo milling acid dye that produces a neutral, cool black on wool, nylon, and leather. As a milling-class dye, it bonds more tenaciously to protein and polyamide fibres than conventional levelling blacks, delivering wash fastness of 4–5 — a full grade higher than levelling blacks typically achieve.
The dye exhausts at a moderate pH of 4–6 using acetic acid or ammonium sulphate, which makes it gentler on sensitive wool and silk fibres and on chrome-tanned leather compared to pH 2–4 levelling blacks. This makes Acid Black 52 the preferred choice for soft-handle knitwear, merino wool fabrics, and premium shoe uppers where both fibre integrity and depth of black are equally important.
In production dyeing, the dye is applied using standard exhaust methods — jigger, overflow jet, and beam dyeing for fabric; rotary drum for leather. It is often used alongside Acid Red 114 or Acid Blue 113 for shade correction — fine-tuning the warmth or coolness of the final black. Yobai Industries supplies Acid Black 52 as ACID BLACK /EB, quality-tested against reference standards before every batch is dispatched.

Indicative dosages at liquor ratio 1:15–1:20. Add dye dissolved in warm water first, then add acid separately to achieve target pH. Carry out lab trials before bulk production.
| Shade Depth | % owf | Acetic Acid | Na₂SO₄ (g/L) | Temp. (°C) | Time at Temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Charcoal | 0.5 – 1.0 | To pH 5–6 | 10 – 15 | 85 | 30 min |
| Medium Grey-Black | 1.0 – 2.0 | To pH 4.5–5.5 | 15 – 20 | 88 – 90 | 45 min |

For leather, adjust liquor ratio and drum time per substrate weight. For nylon, avoid pH below 4 to prevent fibre damage.
Shade range from light charcoal to jet black, depending on dye concentration. Actual on-fabric shade may vary with substrate, water quality, and auxiliary use. Request a dyed swatch for critical colour matching.
Shade cards and dyed lab swatches available on request. Contact our technical team before finalising bulk colour targets.
