Trade Name: ACID BLUE · CI Number: Acid Blue 158
Acid Blue 158 is a milling-class acid dye that produces a medium-to-deep blue shade on wool, nylon, silk, and leather. Unlike levelling blues, milling dyes build higher wash and wet fastness because the dye molecule bonds more firmly to the fibre — making Acid Blue 158 a preferred choice wherever durability under washing or perspiration matters more than maximum brilliance.
Its operating pH range of 3–6 is notably broader than most levelling blues, which makes it versatile across different substrates. Leather is typically dyed at pH 3.5–5; wool knitwear at pH 4.5–5.5 to protect fibre softness; nylon carpet at pH 4–5. Acid Blue 158 performs consistently across all three without separate bath adjustments — a practical advantage for dyehouses processing multiple substrate types.
On leather, it provides good cross-section penetration in drum dyeing. On nylon carpet, it suits both continuous and batch dyeing with consistent lot-to-lot results. In trichromatic recipe work, it serves as the blue component for subdued or muted shade ranges. Yobai Industries supplies Acid Blue 158 with full TDS and batch colour-strength testing before every dispatch.

| Shade Depth | % owf | Acetic Acid (pH) | Na₂SO₄ (g/L) | Temp (°C) | Time (min) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pale Blue | 0.1–0.5% | pH 5–6 | 10–15 | 85 | 30 |
| Medium Blue | 0.5–1.5% | pH 4–5 | 15–20 | 90 | 45 |
| Deep Blue | 1.5–3.0% | pH 3.5–4.5 | 15–20 | 95 | 60 |
| Navy Blue | 3.0–5.0% | pH 3–4 | 20 | 100 | 60–75 |
% owf = percentage on weight of fibre. For silk, limit temperature to 82–85°C and use ammonium sulphate instead of acetic acid.
Representative shades on wool under standard exhaust conditions. Actual colour varies with substrate, pH, and auxiliaries.
Store in a cool, dry location below 30°C. Keep containers tightly sealed, away from moisture, direct sunlight, and strong oxidising agents. Do not store near alkaline materials. Check that packaging is intact before use.
Guaranteed 5 years from date of manufacture when stored under recommended conditions. COA and manufacturing date provided with every batch.
