Acid Blue 113 — Product Overview

Acid Blue 113 is a disazo levelling acid dye that gives a bright, clean blue shade on wool, silk, and nylon. As a levelling-class dye, it migrates readily in the early stages of dyeing, which means unlevelness self-corrects as the process continues — a major advantage for shade-sensitive applications such as fine wool knitwear, hosiery, and continuous-length fabric where streaks would be visible to the end customer.

The dye has a measured light fastness of 5, making it one of the better-fastness levelling blues available for wool and nylon. This is particularly valuable for carpet, upholstery, and drapery fabrics where continued exposure to daylight must not cause visible colour change over the product's lifetime.

Acid Blue 113 is a standard component in trichromatic acid dyeing systems, where it is used alongside Acid Yellow 42 and Acid Red 114 to build the full commercial shade gamut for wool and nylon production. Its predictable exhaustion rate and compatibility with common auxiliaries make it a reliable choice for automated dispensing systems. Yobai Industries supplies this with consistent colour strength and batch testing before dispatch.

Frequently Asked Questions — Acid Blue 113

Acid Blue 113 is a levelling acid dye that gives a bright, clean blue on wool, silk, and nylon. It is used as a standalone shade for sky blue through royal blue and as a standard component in trichromatic acid dyeing systems alongside Acid Yellow 42 and Acid Red 114, covering the full commercial shade gamut for wool and nylon production. Its predictable exhaustion and level shade make it a reliable choice for hosiery, carpet, and fine wool knitwear.

Exhaust dyeing on wool: enter wool at 40°C, add pre-dissolved dye, add Na₂SO₄ (15–20 g/L) and acetic acid to pH 4–4.5. Raise temperature at 1–2°C/min to 90–100°C and hold for 45–60 minutes. A slow temperature rise is important — rapid heating causes uneven strike on wool. After dyeing, rinse hot then cold. As a levelling dye, AB113 self-corrects minor unevenness during the hold period, so a sufficient time at full temperature is essential.

Yes. Acid Blue 113 is one of the most widely used blues in nylon carpet dyeing. Its light fastness of 5 is critical for carpet applications where prolonged exposure to daylight must not cause visible colour change. Use pH 4–4.5, 90–95°C, Na₂SO₄ 15–20 g/L. For pile carpets, a controlled temperature rise and consistent pH prevent tip-to-base shade variation across the pile height.

Acid Blue 113 is the blue component in the standard acid trichromatic system alongside Acid Yellow 42 (yellow) and Acid Red 114 (red). By varying the three ratios, the full shade gamut for wool and nylon can be built. AB113 contributes the blue axis: increasing its proportion deepens blues and cools purples; decreasing it warms the shade toward red-orange. Its compatible exhaustion rate with AY42 and AR114 allows all three to be exhaused in a single bath at the same pH and temperature program.

Acid Blue 113 is a levelling acid dye with bright, vivid blue shade and good levelness on nylon and wool. Acid Blue 158 is typically a milling-class dye with a slightly redder (navy-leaning) blue shade and higher wash fastness. AB113 is preferred where brightness and levelness are the priority; AB158 is chosen where the deeper, more saturated blue and higher durability are needed, such as in wool suiting fabrics or garments requiring repeated washing.

Yes. Acid Blue 113 dyes silk well under controlled conditions. For silk, limit the maximum temperature to 82–85°C to prevent fibre damage. Use ammonium sulphate instead of acetic acid for gentler pH control, and keep the pH at 4.5–5.5. Enter the silk at 40°C, raise gradually to 82–85°C over 30 minutes, and hold for 30–45 minutes. Avoid mechanical agitation that causes silk to felt; use a slow, gentle liquor flow.

Acid Blue 113 has wash fastness of 4 on wool and nylon (ISO 105-C06), which is good for a levelling acid dye. Light fastness is 5, making it suitable for upholstery and drapery applications. To improve wash fastness for garment applications, ensure complete bath exhaustion, then apply an acid dye fixing agent after dyeing (follow the fixative supplier's instructions for dose and temperature). This can raise effective wash fastness by 0.5–1 grade and reduce colour bleed in initial washes.

At 3–5% owf, Acid Blue 113 alone gives a deep, bright blue. For a true navy (slightly greyed blue), add a small amount of Acid Black 52 (0.3–0.8% owf) to dull the brightness and add depth without a warm undertone. Alternatively, add a trace of Acid Orange or Acid Red to get a warmer navy. For a cold, pure navy, a combination of AB113 at 3% owf + Acid Black 52 at 0.5% owf at pH 4–4.5, 95–100°C gives a reliable starting point for lab trials.
