Acid Green 25 — Product Overview

Acid Green 25 is a bright, brilliant green anthraquinone acid dye with excellent levelness and good light fastness. It is the standard choice for bright green shades on wool, silk, nylon, and leather where colour brightness and fastness are both important. Unlike azo-based greens which tend toward yellow or blue bias depending on shade depth, AG25 produces a clean, neutral bright green that reads consistently across the range from pale mint to deep forest.

The anthraquinone chromophore in AG25 is the source of its key performance advantage: a light fastness rating of 5–6 compared to just 3–4 for most azo green dyes. This difference is inherent to the dye chemistry — not improvable through auxiliaries — and makes AG25 the correct choice for outdoor upholstery, automotive seat fabric, sportswear, and any application where colour stability under UV or prolonged daylight is a specification requirement.

In practice, AG25 exhausts efficiently on wool and nylon at pH 3–5 under standard levelling acid dye conditions. For silk, temperature must be limited to 82–85°C with ammonium sulphate. In trichromatic recipes, it serves as the green component in olive and forest shade sequences alongside Acid Brown 83 and Acid Yellow 42. Yobai Industries supplies Acid Green 25 batch-tested for colour strength and shade match before every dispatch.

Frequently Asked Questions — Acid Green 25

Acid Green 25 is an anthraquinone-based anionic acid dye that produces a brilliant, clean bright green on wool, silk, nylon, and leather. The anthraquinone chromophore gives it inherently higher light fastness (5–6) and greater brightness than azo-based green alternatives. It is the standard choice wherever a durable, clean green shade without yellow or blue bias is required — from sportswear to outdoor upholstery.

For wool exhaust dyeing, set bath at pH 4–5 using acetic acid, add sodium sulphate (15–20 g/L), enter wool at 50°C, raise to 95–100°C over 30–40 minutes and hold for 45–60 minutes. AG25 is a levelling dye and exhausts relatively quickly, so a controlled temperature rise is important for level results on fine wool or knitwear. Ammonium sulphate can replace acetic acid for a gentler pH and improved levelness on delicate yarn counts.

The anthraquinone ring system in AG25 is intrinsically more stable under UV radiation than the azo (-N=N-) linkage found in most acid greens. Azo dyes are prone to photochemical reduction — the nitrogen-nitrogen bond breaks under UV, causing progressive fading. Anthraquinone dyes lack this weakness, which is why AG25 consistently rates 5–6 in light fastness while comparable azo greens rate only 3–4. This difference is not fixable by auxiliaries — it is a fundamental property of the chromophore class.

Yes, with temperature control. Limit the dyebath to 82–85°C for silk. Use ammonium sulphate instead of acetic acid (pH 4.5–5) and add a silk-compatible levelling agent. Heat slowly to the target temperature. AG25 produces a clean bright green on silk at these conditions, though deep shades may require longer dyeing times to compensate for the lower temperature. Avoid boiling temperatures, which can dull the silk lustre.

Yes. AG25 dyes nylon well at pH 4–5 using ammonium sulphate. For carpet, exhaust at 90–95°C for 45–60 minutes. Being a levelling dye, it migrates well on nylon, which helps achieve level solid shades — an advantage over milling dyes in continuous carpet dyeing processes. For hosiery, it provides a clean bright green with good wash fastness. In automotive seat fabric (nylon-based), the high light fastness (5–6) makes AG25 the preferred green component.

Increase % owf to 3–5% and lower pH to 3–4 for maximum exhaustion. Run at 100°C for 60–75 minutes. For a forest green with a cooler, darker character, blend AG25 with Acid Blue 158 (0.3–0.8% owf) — the blue shifts the tone from pure green towards blue-green. For a very dark hunter green approaching near-black, add Acid Black 52 (0.5–1.0% owf). Always confirm the blend proportions in a lab trial first, as exhaustion rates differ between levelling and milling class dyes.

Yes, but carefully. AG25 is a levelling dye, while typical blend partners (Acid Brown 83, Acid Black 52) are milling dyes with different exhaustion rates. In a trichromatic recipe, use AG25 in low proportions as the green contributor and rely on AB83 for the brown base. Pre-run exhaustion rate trials to confirm the blend stays stable across different bath depths. Alternatively, use AG25 as the primary dye in blends with levelling blacks and yellows for a fully levelling system.

AG25 is a levelling dye by class, so it migrates well on wool and nylon. To further improve levelness: (1) start at lower pH (5–5.5) and drop to 3.5–4 during the exhaust cycle — this retards initial strike; (2) use sodium sulphate at 15–20 g/L as a competing electrolyte; (3) raise temperature slowly, under 1.5°C per minute; (4) add a non-ionic levelling agent where very fine or textured yarns are involved. Uneven dyeing is most commonly caused by too rapid a temperature rise in the early phase.
